Ulcerative Colitis Gone & My Life Saved

Dr. Dave,

I am writing to you today to thank you for saving my life—literally! Here is my story in my own words:

I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in August 2001, following a small amount of blood in the stool, and my first of approximately 12 colonoscopies over the next 10 years. In conjunction with that I had a battery of Western medicine tests for digestive disorders. You name it, I’ve been tested for it: radioactive barium drink and X-ray, scope down the esophagus, parasite testing, just to name a few.

I had four, one week-long, hospital stays over the years for all of that testing by three different GI doctors at two hospitals. I also had monthly blood tests for liver function. Why? When you take 16 pills of Asacol every day and a 60 mg starting dosage of Prednisone, this tends to ruin your liver. The Western medicine protocol for this crippling disease hasn’t changed much in decades.

All of those treatments produced zero improvement and I became progressively worse. The last GI doctor said to me with a gleam in his eye: “Looks like you’re going to have to lose that colon.” By the end of 2011 I threw in the towel and decided to take no more pills, thinking that if I am going to die, I’m going to die “happy” and “well fed.”

Over the next five years I went from sick to sicker.  I heard MDs say many times: “You have an autoimmune disease. The foods you eat are not a causative factor. There is no cure.” This almost killed me—I ate anything and everything. I have several doctors in my family: an oncologist, cardiologist and a family practice MD.  With the two paltry weeks of nutrition they studied in med school they, too, say the same thing.

During the last three years of this nightmare I was having close calls on an almost daily basis. Several times while driving, I ran red lights if it was clear and chirped the tires, going 60 mph in 30 mph zones to get to a toilet. This what my life had become.

In Dec 2015 I had a most painful experience of kidney stones followed by the worst colitis attack of 20 to 30 bloody gas-and-diarrhea bowel movements a day. In February of 2016 I was housebound and unable to even shop for groceries. Friends and family helped me do all of my daily activities.

I had purchased Dr. David Klein’s book Self Healing Colitis and Crohn’s in January. In February I read it, concentrating on the Vegan Healing Diet Plan section. Dr. Dave coached me with a few sessions over the phone. Dr. Dave knows the difficulties with inflammatory bowel conditions very well and how to heal them.  He explained that I had to lose the toxins and excess weight in my 245-pound body.

Within five days of applying the Vegan Healing Diet Plan the bleeding stopped. My improvement thereafter was not always steady because the diet was tough for me and I did fail several times, but the next day I always got back up on the horse again. One day I wanted a half of a chicken breast, as I felt like I was starving. I later understood that was a psychological craving, not a physical one. After five months of doing better and better with the diet the number of daily bowel movements had reduced from ten to three with no more diarrhea and I felt I was healed.

Since the beginning of this year I have lost 58 pounds and I now have my life back. I am 52 years old and now have more energy than I did at age 20.  Dr. Dave is THE man who saved and restored my life and sanity. Thanks Dr. Dave once again for the coaching and support!
