36 Ways We Damage Our Small Intestine

Treat Your Villi Very Gently!

Your small intestine is not at all like a rugged garden hose which can handle any and all abuse; it’s certainly not coated with Teflon! It’s a very intricate organ made of delicate flesh.

The the inner surface of the small intestine is lined with specialized structures called “villi” (pronounced “vil-eye”). Villi are small, finger-like projections that protrude from the epithelial lining of the small intestine’s inner walls. The villi are set in a striated pattern (like the bristles of a hair brush) to provide a great absorptive surface area for the enormous quantity of molecular nutrients which transit along the approximately 20-foot length of the small intestine.

The absorption of nutrients is facilitated by enterocyte digestive enzyme which is secreted from each villi. The villi absorb fatty acids, amino acids and simple sugars through their semi-permeable membranes into capillaries for delivery to the rest of the body through the lymph fluid. To enable the diffusion of nutrients into the bloodstream, the villi have a rich blood supply to maintain a concentration gradient across the membranes.

FRAGILE: Treat With Utmost Care!

The walls of villi are remarkably thin, about one cell thick, and are therefore very delicate and fragile. Each villus is approximately 0.5 to 1.6 mm in length and has many projecting microvilli which collectively form the brush border membrane. When abused by unnatural dietary, recreational and remedial practices, the villi are easily damaged and their function can be impaired or fully destroyed. This typically causes pain and leads to a myriad of disease conditions.

vili-photo
In consideration of the facts that

  • the villi are extremely delicate,
  • the small intestine is only about one inch in diameter,
  • the small intestine is packed into the abdominal cavity with numerous loops and bends, and
  • the muscles of the small intestine do not have unlimited energy available to move digesta toward the colon,

it should be obvious that the small intestine will function best on a diet of soft, water-rich foods.

Analogously, it’s much easier to pump juice through a hose than it is to pump thick, sticky mud with solid chunks of plants. Right?

So, you must have guessed it by now: the most suitable foods for the small intestines are ripe, raw, juicy organic fruits and, therefore, fruit should comprise the bulk of our diet! Biologically, anatomically and physiologically, humans truly are a species of frugivores!

Dietary Transgressions and Intestinal Damage

When we stray from a water-rich diet of soft foods (mainly juicy fruits and tender vegetables which are chewed well), we stress the small intestines and the entire bowel, and the consequences will typically be disastrous. I know! As a result of the omnivorous diet I ate as child and teenager, I had ulcerative colitis for eight hellacious years. But, I healed that for good 32 years ago via a fruit-based, mostly raw and fully vegan diet.

Since 1993, have helped 4,000 clients heal their intestines via a specialized fruit-based diet program which I call the Vegan Healing Diet Plan. Juicy raw plant foods and thorough chewing promote healing!

In Conclusion: Eat Juicily!

The natural biological diet for humans (known by the names The Vibrant Diet, The Hygienic Diet, The 80-10-10 Diet  and The Acid-Alkaline-Association Diet) has proven to be the most health-promoting diet of them all. It is a simple, super-nutritious diet of mostly juicy fruits, complemented with tender vegetables and minimal quantities of soft, hydrated, well-chewed or blended seeds and nuts. If you want your gut to heal, feel great and work with quiet perfection, maintain a juicy, high-water content diet of mostly ripe, juicy fruits, and practice perfect food combining. Water fasting promotes the fastest healing of the gut. Educate yourself about water fasting and do not attempt one longer than three days without professional supervision. A juice diet is also effective for healing. If you or a loved one needs guidance, I am glad to help.

Why I Don’t Miss Meat & Why Ulcerative Colitis is Gone Forever

Why I Don’t Miss Meat & Why Ulcerative Colitis is Gone Forever

Dave-tree3-in-1 copy
Thirty-one years ago, after an eight-year tragedy with ulcerative colitis, I saw the light and healed up my bloody ulcerated colon in four short weeks, after a gastroenterologist said it must be removed. My new life began with an explosion of joy which has not yet waned, and an indomitable passion to educate everyone else about healing.

The basis of my amazing healing and rejuvenation was Natural Hygiene (healthful living, or life science) education. The keys were:

1. The revelation that my body is designed to eat a vegan diet of mainly fruits and vegetables, and that diet would enable my body to detoxify the poisons that caused the inflammatory disease, and supply it with the nutrients needed to heal and generate my colon, and build superior health.

2. The understanding that my meat-based diet was the primary cause of my gut disease. I understood that cooked dead animal parts rot (putrefy) in my bowels, generating a host of virulent toxins and imparting destructive acidity. This enervates the bowel, poisons the bloodstream and causes systemic toxicosis, inflammation and gut dysfunction. In short, meat CAUSED my inflammatory bowel disease, so I STOPPED THE CAUSE.

3. I envisioned my bowels and tissues cleaning out the putrid morbid wastes of my toxic diet and becoming pure, and my entire being becoming healed and happy with nothing but pure digested, harmless fruits and vegetables in my bowel, and my bloodstream pure.

4. I understood that an enormous amount of energy would be liberated for my body to heal and rebuild an all-new clean body, no longer constantly burdened by a huge toxic load which affected my brain chemistry and made me miserable.

5. I saw the path to vibrant health and happiness, and during the four weeks of my healing, day by day I felt better and better, happier and happier, and finally overjoyed with my new healthful life anchored by the most naturally delicious and liberating foods on God’s Earth.

That amazing process of rejuvenation began at age 26. Before day one, I felt like I was 126. Now, at age 57, I feel something like 27. And I LOVE every bit of my raw-vegan fruit-vegetable-nut-seed diet! Our taste buds are corrupted by other diets; once you get into it, this one is the MOST delicious and satisfying of them all.

I do not miss meat! It made me tired, sluggish, smelly, toxic, sick, miserable and lost. I stopped eating meat one day 31 years ago and I would never go back to the killer of my dreams, my life, my happiness.

If an animal is slaughtered, it is not going to end up rotting in my body—my temple of health. If an animal dies, it should return to the soil. If an animal is boiled, roasted, barbecued, microwaved or fried, it is at least 100 times more indigestible and toxic than before, and it will poison the body and cause any of hundreds of disease conditions, or really just the one that covers them all: toxicosis. Heated animal meat is downright carcinogenic. Read Diet, Nutrition and Cancer by Dr. T. Colin Campbell et al. to learn about the carcinogenic result of cooking foods.

When anyone eats any kind of animal, they are poisoning their body, and setting up disease and suffering. They are also mindlessly contributing to the paradigm of killing and disrespect for all of life, which is the ugliest of all human traits, and the one which is the reason why men have been constantly warring since ancient times.

My body makes its own flesh, it’s own protein, blood and bones, from fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds. They all furnish the building block of protein: amino acids. The body makes ALL of its protein from amino acids. It doesn’t need dead animal parts to do this. Cooking actually destroys animal protein, rendering it unusable by the body.

Fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds are my diet. Meat is not food for me, and, really, meat is not a true healthful food for any human being. Fruit is my primary food. It keeps me clean, energized, youthful, keen, inspired and happy. Nothing tastes better than sweet, luscious fruit!

When I want something fatty, small amounts of avocado, nuts and germinated seeds do it for me, with far far better results than meat. You can say that avocados, nuts and seeds are my new “meats.” But I anchor my diet with luscious fruits, because nothing satisfies the body and soul better. My protein level and strength are just fine.

Humans are frugivores (fruit eaters). Our naturally most healthful diet is the fruitarian diet: fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. Our most healing diet is sweet fruits. Humans will only thrive eating our natural diet, the one which digests perfectly and imparts no toxicity. Everyone can do this and thrive like never before.

Food Combining For Digestion Perfection

Food Combining For Digestion Perfection

by Dr. David Klein
Director of the Colitis & Crohn’s Health Recovery Center www.colitis-crohns.com
Author of “Self Healing Colitis & Crohn’s”

Food combining is the selection, preparation and consumption of foods which are compatible with our digestive physiology for our meals; this greatly enhances our digestion and promotes optimum health. Everyone soon benefits from this simple practice.

Why Practice Food Combining?

We need to practice proper food combining because constitutionally we are not omnivores. We are designed to eat simple meals of primarily one kind of food at a time which is suited to our fruitarian constitution, as we would procure in nature. While mono meals (one type of food per meal) yield the best results, simple meals of 2 or 3 different compatible foods also work well.

We have digestive limitations–we cannot completely digest haphazard and complex food combinations, as evidenced by indigestion, flatulence, acid reflux, diarrhea, vomiting, irritable bowel, body odors, colds, flu, pimples, dandruff, chronic pain, fatigue, earaches, colds, sore throats, fevers and countless other signs of toxemia. This is because meals of improperly combined foods limit or negate digestion–the foods will decompose or rot in the gut, poisoning us and potentially leading to irritable bowel, colitis, Crohn’s disease, GERD and many other gastrointestinal diseases.

If we have chronic gastrointestinal gas, queasiness, bloating and body odors we are not healthy, even if we feel “fine” in some ways. Toxic matter and gases in the body erode our health, sooner or later leading to disease and suffering. Those who can seemingly eat “anything” are, ultimately, not going to get away with it. In fact, hygienic physiologists agree that over ninety percent of all known common maladies and major diseases are caused by autointoxication, i.e., self-poisoning, mainly from eating diets which are incompatible with our physiological constitution and systemic capabilities. The old Chinese saying holds true: “Disease enters through the mouth.”

The practice of food combining is supported by overwhelming scientific evidence. During the United States Civil War era a medical doctor named Beaumont performed many clinical tests on a man who, by virtue of an unusual injury, had a temporary hole extending to the exterior of his abdomen which afforded direct sampling of his stomach contents under various eating conditions. Those observations were used subsequently by 19th century physiologists Dr. John H. Tilden and Dr. Herbert M. Shelton in the formulation of food combining guidelines. Dr. Shelton’s classic, “Food Combining Made Easy,” has helped millions. Furthermore, food combining instructions date back to ancient times, as revealed by Kosher dietary laws and ancient yogic texts.

The Physiology of Digestion

Specific digestive enzymes are required to digest specific food components, i.e., to split certain molecules into assimilable and usable components. Herewith are the physiological basics of digestion with regard to food combining.

Starch digestion begins in the mouth. Salivary amylase enzymes/juices are secreted when we chew starchy foods. Therefore, we must chew starchy food well, mixing our saliva with the food (the process known as “insalivation”). Our salivary enzymes are highly alkaline and their functionality is weakened when mixed with acids. When alkaline and acid enzymes are mixed the pHs cancel out and digestion is impaired. Therefore, we must not consume acid fruits with starchy foods.

Strong acidic digestive enzymes (hydrochloric acid and pepsin) are secreted in the stomach when we eat high-protein foods (e.g., nuts, seeds and avocado). If we eat starchy foods with high-protein foods, the alkaline salivary enzymes will mix with the acidic stomach enzymes in the stomach, curtailing digestion, causing the starches to ferment and proteins to putrefy in the gut. Thus, it is obvious that nuts and white potatoes or grains cannot digest well together. This also applies to the conventional combinations of meat with potatoes, pasta with meatballs, pizza with cheese and meat, hamburgers and hot dogs on buns, meat and bread sandwiches with mayonnaise and butter, cereal with milk, and rice with tofu or beans.

Fruits are predigested by the ripening action of the sun and their enzymes. As such, they require little digestion in the body. Their nutrients need to be absorbed into the bloodstream within 10 to 60 minutes–otherwise, the sugars will warm up and ferment. The denser, bulkier fruits which have a bit of fat, such as bananas, require the longest detention time in the stomach–about an hour. There they are mixed with a small amount of bodily water and gradually released into the small intestine. Fruits digest best by themselves or with “neutral” green vegetables. The “neutral” vegetables (such as celery, lettuce and kale) are so called because their starch, protein and fat content is low and, thus, their digestion will not interfere with the digestion of fruit. In fact, the inclusion of greens with fruit meals generally aids digestion by virtue of their fiber and complimentary nutrient content. Energetically, greens with fruit is known to have a balancing effect.

The fat in fatty foods (most of which are also high in protein) is primarily digested in the upper part of the small intestine. Fat is emulsified (broken down into small, assimilable droplets) by the strong alkaline enzymes in bile. Bile is made in the liver, sent to the gallbladder and secreted into the duodenum. When large complex meals are eaten, the food will be held up in the stomach for many hours and the fat will likely become rancid and rendered unusable before it can be acted upon by bile.

The complete digestion of starch, protein and fat requires time–approximately 1 to 2 hours for raw food meals and several hours longer for cooked foods. The digestion of these nutrients also requires full-strength enzymatic action. If starchy and fatty high-protein foods are ingested with water, beverages and watery fruit, the additional liquid content will dilute the concentration of the digestive enzymes, reducing their effectiveness.

If sweet, non-acid fruit is eaten with large portions of starchy and/or fatty high-protein foods, they will be detained for more than an hour in the stomach and will transit more slowly through the bowel. Their sugars will warm up and ferment, potentially causing all sorts of problems, including irritable bowel, candida albicans overgrowth, gassiness, diarrhea, vomiting and brain fog. Furthermore, simultaneous high concentrations of sugar and fat in the bloodstream causes problems with blood sugar metabolism, such as diabetes.

If small portions of starchy and/or fatty high-protein foods are eaten with large portions of sweet fruits or juices, this hinders the body’s ability to sense the presence of the starch, protein and fat. The digestive enzymes they require may not be secreted, and fermentation and putrefaction will likely occur. As an example, nuts/seeds/butters/avocado added to sweet, non-acid fruit smoothies will not be digested.
The combining of minimal amounts of acid fruits with fatty-protein foods (such as in a salad dressing) tends to digest well for some people because the acids in the fruits aid in the breaking down of protein molecules.

Test It Yourself and You’ll Quickly Know

The validity of the food combining guidelines (or “rules”) has been readily confirmed by everyone who has diligently applied them. A properly combined, alkalizing, low-fat, vegan diet of 75 percent or more raw, vegan foods will clear up most digestive maladies in short order.

In my own case, after 8 horrific years of ulcerative colitis my g.i. system quieted down within 24 hours of adopting a fruit-based vegan diet and applying food combining protocol. I felt wonderfully well and healing was rapid. Previously, during my long siege of ulcerative colitis, my g.i. system had been a virtual erupting volcano when eating. Countless others have experienced similar relief of their g.i. ills. Everyone who adheres to these guidelines, avoiding overeating and incorporating other essential elements of healthful living, sooner or later derives the benefits of excellent digestion, absence of body odors, minimal or no gas, inoffensive feces, effortless defecation, clear urine, clearer skin, eyes and mind, more balanced composure, ideal weight level, greater physical stamina, faster healing, better sleep and youthful vitality.

When food combining is optimized, your digestion and elimination should be silent and effortless, and healthful eating should be a total pleasure.

Stomach ulcers can evolve in various sizes, from tiny pinholes to much larger raw patches. Some are extremely painful, while some are painful part of the time. Most secrete pus. Some bleed and some do not.

Stomach ulcers typically begin with mental-emotional and dietary stress, causing stomach irritation then damage which can escalate to ulcerations. Stomach ulcerations are open sores at damaged points on the inner stomach wall. When the blood stream is toxic (a condition known as “toxemia”), the body tends to offload toxins and dead white blood cells (pus) through ulcer openings. Chronic stomach ulcerations result in induration (scarring), stomach malfunction and, in the last stage of some cases, cancer.

All of these conditions, except for extreme induration and the last stages of cancer, can be easily healed and normal stomach function can be regained under a proper, hygienic, natural dietary healing program.

The Common Causes of Stomach Ulcers

Extreme Mental-Emotional Stress
When we are under duress, the entire alimentary canal and the digestive and elimination systems will under-function or completely shut down—food will not digest or travel through the stomach properly; digestive enzyme secretion will be weak and stomach mixing motions and emptying will be curtailed. Under this scenario, food is retained in the stomach for excessive durations, and it will warm up and decompose, releasing harmful chemicals which can damage the stomach lining.

Malnutrition in the Form of Low or Absent Nutrient Intake
Common modern diets of conventionally-grown foods are bereft of nutrients and largely indigestible, causing under-functioning and breakdowns of bodily systems, leading to stomach malfunction and breakdown.

Incomplete Chewing
Digestion must begin in the mouth. Incomplete chewing results in solid chunks of food entering the stomach, causing the overwork and enervation (weakening) of the stomach muscle. Furthermore, when starchy foods are not chewed well, the secretion of the salivary enzymes required for their digestion will be insufficient. Insufficient chewing can result in the fermentation of starches in the stomach whereby harsh chemicals such as alcohol and vinegar will irritate and damage the stomach wall.

Overeating
Too much food sitting in the stomach causes an overproduction of stomach acid which can breech the stomach’s protective mucosal lining. This is typically coupled with the fermentation of the stomach’s food contents, producing alcohol and vinegar and other harsh chemicals. This can also cause swelling, inflammation and damage to the pylorus sphincter (or valve) which can result in abnormally-long retention of the stomach’s contents. Delayed stomach emptying is known as “gastroparesis.”

Harsh Irritants
The main culprits are: strong spices such as pepper, cayenne, oregano and curries, salt, vinegar, chiles, onions, garlic, radish, arugula, mustard, wasabi, hot sauces, cooked tomato sauce, lemon and lime juice, alcohol, coffee, cola soft drinks, extremely hot soups and beverages, and drugs such as aspirin and prednisone.

Excessive Eating of High-Protein Foods, Such as Meat, Dairy, Legumes/Beans, Nuts and Seeds
Specialized stomach cells secrete acidic digestive enzymes (such as pepsin and hydrochloric acid) to break down protein. The overeating of high-protein foods forces the body to overproduce stomach acid, leading to stomach irritation as well as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

Over-Consuming Orange Juice and Other Acidic Juices
In small quantities, sweet, raw, organic orange juice is normally not irritating to the stomach which is protected by its mucosal lining. Large quantities of orange juice and other other acidic beverages, such as cranberry, pineapple, pomegranate, lemonade, sodas and coffee, can be extremely damaging, leading to ulcerations.

Consuming Fatty, High-Protein Foods With Sweet or Starchy High-Carbohydrate Foods (“Bad Food Combining”)
Complex mixtures of different food groups cause gastric (stomach) irritation as such: alkaline digestive juices (enzymes, such as amylase or ptyalin) are secreted in the mouth to digest complex carbohydrates (starches); acidic digestive juices (enzymes such as pepsin and hydrochloric acid) are secreted in the stomach to digest proteins—when we eat starchy and high-protein foods together, the alkaline and acidic enzymes become mixed in the stomach and their pH’s cancel out, resulting in poor or no digestion. When we eat simple carbohydrate foods (fruits) which require little digestion time in the stomach along with fatty high-protein foods which require four or more hours of digestion time in the stomach, the fruit sugars will be retained too long, they will heat up and ferment. When the contents of the stomach cannot be digested, the proteins will putrefy and any carbohydrates will ferment, generating destructive, irritating chemicals (hydrogen sulfide, putrescine, ammonia, alcohol, vinegar, etc.). If the stomach digesta (contents) become extremely acidic and toxic causing acute pain, the body may eject it via vomiting.

Eating Too Close to Bedtime
When we go to sleep with food in our stomach, the digestion and emptying processes are greatly diminished. As such, food will be retained in the stomach and it will putrefy and ferment.

Parasites
Parasites can rob us of our food and enervate and damage the stomach wall.

What About the Claim That Bacteria Cause Stomach Ulcers?

Bacteria do not cause stomach ulcers—they merely consume and degrade food matter and breed in a conducive environment, such as the overloaded stomach and bowel of a person who eats a haphazard, unnatural diet. When we correct our diet and live healthfully, the body will rid them.

The Natural Solutions

Eat Only When Truly Hungry, Poised, Alert and Pain-Free
Do no eat when extremely tired, mentally distracted, emotionally upset or when suffering with stomach or gut discomfort. Get proper dietary healing guidance when your stomach or gut are bothersome. An experienced Hygienic Doctor, such as myself, can guide you with a healing plan which suits your physiological, mental and emotional needs so that you can heal comfortably, safely and efficiently.

Eat Your Natural Biological Diet
A simple, carefully-selected, organic, fresh, low-fat, whole vegan food diet of mostly fresh, high-water-content fruits and vegetables eaten in accordance with proper food sequencing and combining is the optimal way to restore vibrant health. A broad spectrum of viable nutrients from a diet that is high in a variety of fresh, raw (uncooked), organically-grown fruits and vegetables and low in fatty high-protein foods (especially cooked ones) is essential for maintaining vibrant health. After healing, optimally, no more than 10% of our calories should come from protein or fat and 80% of our calories should come from carbohydrate. This is easy to achieve if we eat mostly fruit and raw vegetables during the morning and afternoon hours and for dinner have a raw salad with steamed vegetables, sweet potatoes and/or squash with either a small portion of starchy food (such as white potato or whole grains) or a raw fatty food (such as nuts, seeds or avocado in the whole or blended form, such as a homemade salad dressing or spread).

Chew Your Food Well
Eat slowly and thoroughly chew each mouthful of food until the solids are completely liquefied and mixed with digestive juices.

Eat Only Up to the Point of Satiation
We must eat only when truly hungry and avoid overeating. While poised and alert and eating natural foods, we can practice self-awareness and look for the “stop signal” which alerts us that we have reached the point of “satiety.” That is the sensation which tells us we have “had enough”—that is, we feel satisfied, we are no longer hungry and our digestive system can handle no more food. At that point we must obey our body’s wisdom, stop eating and put away any extra food.

Cut Out All Flavorings and Condiments and Let The Natural Flavors of Fresh, Nutritious Foods Shine Through
After a week or two of letting go of all the strong, irritating flavorings listed previously, our taste buds naturally become alive and attuned to the natural flavors in our natural diet, and we will invariably enjoy them more than the lifeless, disguised flavors of the old diets which damaged our health. Furthermore, we will start feeling much better soon, the stomach will heal and we will rejoice in the simplicity of this delicious new way of eating (which is actually human’s original way).

Adhere to Proper Food Sequencing Guidelines
The best sequencing is fruit-and-greens meals during the day, then, optionally, a glass of raw vegetable juice, followed at least one-half hour later by a dinner of a raw garden salad with or without steamed vegetables, squashes, potatoes and/or grains with or without a small portion of avocado (only after you have healed). If you have healed and desire nuts or seeds with dinner, limit them to one to two ounces and do not eat any starchy foods (potatoes or grains) at that meal. Note that after healing it is not necessary and in many cases unhealthful to eat a fatty food every day. Furthermore, it is OK to have a dinner of simply more fruit and greens.

Adhere to Proper Food Combining Guidelines
Eat simple meals and follow food combining guidelines to a “t.” Eat fruit only on an empty stomach, alone or with leafy greens, celery and/or cucumber. Eat melons alone. Do not eat any acid fruits until you are totally healed; when healed, eat them in moderation and before sweet fruits. Starchy foods (squash, potatoes, grains and old carrots) combine well with all vegetables and bell peppers; they do not combine well with tomatoes or other acidic or sweet fruits, nuts and seeds; they combine moderately well with avocado. Fatty, high-protein foods (nuts, seeds and avocados) combine well only with non-starchy vegetables (greens and celery), cucumbers and minimal amounts of acidic fruits including tomatoes; they do not combine well with starchy or non-acidic sweet foods.

Eat Your Last Meal of the Day No Sooner Than Three Hours Before Bedtime
Assure that the contents in your stomach have been predigested and have had sufficient time to become completely digested in your small intestine. This will promote optimum nutritional benefits and sound, restorative sleep. When we need to heal an illness, we need a simple digestible diet, plentiful rest and at least nine hours of sleep per night.

Allow Your Body to Cleanse Itself (Detoxify) Naturally
It is a dangerous mistake to fight parasites and overgrowths of fungi and even bacteria which are commonly believed to be harmful with drugs, chemical remedies, herbs and other modalities. The human body is a self-cleansing, self-purifying, self-repairing marvel. If we fight invaders with toxic chemicals, we are risking great harm and wasting our time and money. We must not get fooled into believing in remedial “cures.” We must not try to kill anything in our body or use harsh flushing agents. Only health-building practices which support self-healing can assure us of safe and efficient health restoration results. Antibiotics are similar to insecticides and herbicides—they have ruined many people’s health and severely shortened many lives. So-called “natural” herbal remedies and the like may be less toxic than pharmaceuticals; however, they are still toxic and cause damage and weaken our entire organism. Flushing concoctions and drugs are also extremely dangerous—they can cause great harm to the liver and trigger new health problems. The body cleanses (detoxifies) best and most safely when for a period of time we take complete rest and consume a simple high-water content diet of appropriate simple fruits and vegetables with no fatty foods. Drinking several glasses of water before breakfast and between meals is also vital. Toxic invaders, old stores of toxic matter and chemicals and excess deposits of unhealthy fat will be eliminated, damaged and inferior cells and most or all scar tissues will be broken down and replaced with new functional cells and tissues, organs will heal, bodily energy will rise, vitality will soar, and we will gain an ecstatic sense of well-being and happiness on a lifelong healthful living program of eating our natural, most nutritious biological diet. It’s a sure thing!

Water Fasting
Water fasting—a complete physiological rest while living on only purified water—is the fastest and most efficient way to self-heal. In severe cases of gastrointestinal disease, a supervised water fast may be crucial for the restoration of health. We must learn when to fast and when not to fast, how to fast correctly and how to properly break a fast. The first steps are to read Fasting Can Save Your Life by Dr. Herbert M. Shelton and consult a Hygienic Doctor who specializes in water fasting and assure you get the proper care when undergoing a water fast. Improper water fasting can be very dangerous. Please do not undertake a water fast longer than one day without professional guidance from a qualified Hygienic Doctor.

The Gastrointestinal Health Solution: Natural Hygiene Education

The Gastrointestinal Health Solution:
Natural Hygiene Education

by Dr. David Klein
Director of the Colitis & Crohn’s Health Recovery Center
http://www.colitis-crohns.com

The gastrointestinal health of people in modern societies worldwide is staggeringly poor, due mainly to haphazard eating routines including overindulgence in fatty and starchy comfort foods, processed, low-nutrient junk snacks, stimulant drinks and out-of-control high-stress lifestyles.

It’s incredibly sad that people routinely poison themselves many times each day with every meal and snack. Well over 50% of our population suffer with digestive maladies and accept them as normal. People routinely pop antacid pills, take prescription and nonprescription “stomach medicines,” laxatives and a plethora of other remedies, washing them down with toxic food fare and believing there is nothing they can or should do to change their eating habits.

Meanwhile, the prevailing dietary messages coming from today’s medical doctors, dietitians, nutritionists, nurses and even most health gurus is conflicting, confusing, often destructive and downright ignorant of our true digestive health needs as dictated by the sciences of biology and physiology.

Dr. Andrew Weil recently wrote: “Unfortunately, too many Americans are taking a dubious shortcut to digestive health: GI medication use has jumped dramatically in recent years. One in ten Americans was prescribed at least one GI medication on an outpatient basis in 2007 (the most recent year for which figures are available) compared to 1 in 15 in 1997. Such medications often do more harm than good—masking imbalances that can lead to more serious conditions, and causing numerous side effects, including lower B12 levels, increased risk of fractures and even increased risk of infections.”

Then what is the answer? Health education based in Hygienic science. i.e., Natural Hygiene—the science and fine art of of living healthfully in accord with the Laws of Nature.

Over the past two centuries, Natural Hygiene educators and doctors have been teaching biologically correct dietary practices based on an accurate understanding of our biological constitution and physiological needs and limitations. It is a proven, yet not commonly accepted fact, that we are constitutionally frugivores. I.e., we are designed to thrive on a simple, whole food, vegan diet of mostly fruit. We can eat omnivorously, but that invariably leads to disease and suffering.

Despite prevailing anti-fruit sentiment and the limited experiences of those who shun fruits because of their brief, unfavorable experiences eating them as part of their haphazard unnatural diets, fruit has proven to be the most nutritious and health-promoting food when appropriate fruits are eaten in a proper manner as part of a wholistic health program. How we eat is as important as what we eat, even when it comes to “health foods.” This is indeed controversial—but we can all prove these assertions for ourselves and enjoy the liberating results.

Healthful eating guidelines for promoting perfect digestion and gastrointestinal health have been established long ago. Special care protocol for the reversal of common g.i. maladies, including the diseases considered “incurable” by modern medicine, have been taught by a small enlightened body of Hygienic practitioners (including myself), and we have helped a few million overcome every sort of g.i. disease condition. The healthful eating and natural healing guidelines I speak of are actually very simple, and after a brief study soon resonate as common sense; they are contained in many books on the subject of Natural Hygiene and are actually derived from physiology books, the empirical experiences of Natural Hygiene practitioners, and those who have healed g.i. diseases and resurrected their health (as I did).

In short, the basics of healthful eating for perfect digestion entail: appropriate natural vegan food selection, simple food preparation, proper food combining, thorough chewing, eating only up to (and not beyond) the point of satiation, and proper food sequencing. The protocol for healing digestive diseases varies and needs to be carefully evaluated and implemented based upon the individual’s health history, condition and needs. In general, the healing approaches may include water fasting, juice dieting, carefully selected, simple, digestible meals of mostly or all raw foods, steamed plant foods, and abundant rest.

The guidelines and general healing protocol I speak of are taught in my two books: Self Healing Colitis & Crohn’s and Digestion Perfection. For less than the cost of a week’s worth of medicines, people can invest in those health education tools and, in most cases, learn how to quickly set themselves free of the tyranny of medications, doctor visits, soaring health insurance bills and chronic g.i. miseries. The time-honored teachings of Natural Hygiene and my 26 years of experience in the field of g.i. health, including my work wherein I have helped over 2,000 clients efficiently heal a wide variety of g.i. and related health afflictions, are contained in my two books. For those who need guidance with their healing process, I am available to provide counseling by phone, Skype, e-mail and in person. No one need suffer with any g.i. ailment, for the solutions are known and readily available to all!

Now more than ever, these words of wisdom ring true:

“The best part of every man’s education is that which he gives to himself.” -Sir Walter Scott

“Education is the instruction of the intellect in the laws of nature.” -Thomas Henry Huxley

It is true: it all starts with health education, i.e., true, natural, accurate health education, as taught in Natural Hygiene. I can guarantee you will discover that the absolute best health assurance and insurance is an accurate education in physiology, natural nutrition, health and self-healing.

Here’s to your perfect g.i. health and happiness!
